How can I provide enough for our needs
If you are struggling to make ends meet you are not alone. Thousands of people in our country are finding it
hard to cope with their finances, with all the stress and strain on health and relationships which they
bring. But God knows and cares about your situation, and he wants to help you. If you're struggling with
debt there are things you need to do.
Firstly, face the issue, rather than ignoring it. It's not going to go away. You need to do something about it. So speak to someone about it and then you can start to turn
things around. Be honest about it, and get support and counselling to help you cope with it. Learn how to
budget carefully. Work out your income and outgoings. Keep a note of everything you spend, and try to find
things you can do without. Use savings to pay off debts which charge most interest first, while paying the
minimum due on others, or try to move the debt to a lender whose charges will be less (checking whether the
existing lender will penalise you for doing this), and remember, you needn't be on your own. Church is
there to help and support you through. It's a very safe place to tackle these problems with the support of
friends and bring God into it. Ask him to help you to get your spending under control, to face up to any
difficult choices, and to give you strength along the way.
As Christians, many of us have seen God provide
for us in amazing ways. God can be trusted. He may not give us all that we want, but he has provided for
our needs. There's a story in the Bible of a widow who only had a jar of oil and flour, yet when she gave it
to God he used it to provide for her needs and each of us has something, however little, which we can
bring.
When we trust him with all that we have (our finances, our talents, our relationships, our own
lives), we have found that he is able to take what we bring (however small) and use it to meet our needs.
Why not give it a try?
